For men, prostate cancer is a very scary disease because prostate cancer is the number 3 cause of death for men and the number 1 cause of death of men aged over 74 years. There are many ways you can do to maintain prostate health, among others :
- Maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes, watermelon, guava and papaya, are loaded with lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts are also good choices.
- Tell your doctor if you have a family history of prostate cancer. Having a father or brother with prostate cancer, has probably more than doubled this disease.
- Include soy in your diet, could be through tofu, moulded soya bean, soy nuts, soy flour or powder.
- Don’t smoke.
- Eating more selenium rich foods such as wheat germ, tuna, seafood and shellfish, beef liver, eggs, sunflower and sesame seeds, cashew nuts, mushrooms, garlic and onion. Because selenium can reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
- Make a PSA blood test and Digital Rectal Exam every year, starting at the age of 50 years.
