New therapies Lithotripsy uses the technique, a technique developed more than 20 years ago for the treatment of kidney stones. Sound waves emitted through the skin, and even through the tissue without harming the body, the sound waves are on the right pressure to destroy kidney stones into small particles like sand and out of the body with urine.

In recent years, several studies have also shown that the type of sound wave therapy seems to have healthful effects of the blood vessels. Trigger the release of important substances called Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), which sends a signal for new blood vessels begin to grow. As a result, the sound wave therapy also attract interest from cardiologists to seek new ways to treat heart disease.

Currently, researchers from the U.S. and Japan are investigating whether the flow of sound waves toward the heart will help the growth of new blood vessels healthy. If it is true, this could provide hope for people with heart disease without surgery.

According to research in Israel, the same benefits can help men who experience impotence problems. Some health experts now believe there is a close relationship between impotence and heart disease, and that sexual problems often are signals of deep vein thrombosis in the heart which reduces blood flow throughout the body.

Doctors at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa – Israel, recruited 20 men with an average age of 56 years to take part in the study. 20 men experiencing impotence problems mild to moderate and was undergoing treatment for an average of 3 years. During the three weeks of treatment in the study, low-intensity sound waves repeatedly applied to the point 5 in the genital area, using a handheld device. Then assessed the severity of the disease in men 30 point scale called the International Index of Erectile Function, which is widely used to measure the problem of impotence. The lower the score, the greater the problem of impotence.

Before the study, these men have an average value between 12 and 20 points, which means they experience sexual dysfunction, mild to moderate. But after treatment, their value increased by approximately 5 to 10 points, to an average of 17 to 30 points. Experts say that the increase is only 5 points a significant improvement.

In the last 10 years, Viagra and similar drugs such as Cialis and Levitra has changed the way the treatment of impotence, but approximately 30% of men who use it do not have any progress. For the 30% of men, the only other option is to inject the drug directly into the penis, or using a manual pump to increase blood supply to the genitals. Dr. Yoram Vardi, who led the research said the “Viagra and the like is not a drug. If the patient stops drinking, they again have an impotence problem. With sound waves, there is a biological treatment, so patients need to return to normal without treatment after that”.

Dr. John Dean, president of the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM), said the findings were interesting and further research is needed to obtain satisfactory results.
